Presenting the 1st Sex Positive Meetup at SXSW

On March 15th, Kimi Inch and her co-host Kenya Stevens from Progressive Love Academy hosted the first ever Sex Positive meetup at SXSW! This year at SXSW there were very few sex related talks and so having an opportunity to speak at the conference about sex positivity was a huge deal. And even better- this presentation had a large turn out and ended up being beyond max capacity! It ended up being one of the most successful meetups at SXSW and the feedback from those who attended said it was their most favorite part of the event!

Kimi and Kenya are so moved by the beautiful sexual beings that showed up as we discussed expanding the definition of sex and sexuality.

When people are doing personal development work – because they want to be more successful, they want more money, they want fulfilling relationships, they usually leave work around their sexuality for last – IF THEY EVER DO IT AT ALL!

What Kimi has found after working 20 years in the field, is that when you have a healthy alignment to sex and sexuality – it actually changes everything else in a person’s life from the inside out. Because sexuality is the core of who we are. It’s where we came from.

Think about the aspects of sex that makes sex great. For example, some qualities of sex that make it great is: pleasure, fun, vulnerability, intimate, transcendent, connecting, powerful etc

Sex can be all those things and more and I think it’s important to look at how we are viewing sex. Most of society looks at sex as slot A into slot B. But sex can be so much more than that. Let’s expand the definition of sex beyond being genitally focused. Sex can be mental, sex can be emotional, and sex can be energetic. Have you ever had a full-bodied orgasm without being physically touched? It’s pretty nifty.

And while Kimi appreciates all the people working in sex related industries- spreading awareness and education- it feels like we still have such a long way to go. Which is why we need your help. If you consider yourself to be a sex positive person, then please share your voice and support the voices who are advocating for sexual freedom and sexual education. We are all in this together and it’s only by working together can change happen.
